The department was established on April 20, 1998. Currently, it offers bachelor’s degree program in the area of media management and various master’s programs in journalism.
It provides training in general professional disciplines of the social and humanitarian profile: «Sociology of Journalism», «Political Science and Journalism», «Media Psychology», «Legal Basics of Journalism» and others.
The scientific work of the department focuses on research studies within the framework of the theory of journalism and integrative theory of media (medialogy), interdisciplinary research at the junction of journalism, social sciences and humanities.
